Wizard, Master, or Apprentice: The Choice is Yours!

The purpose of this class is to increase your ability to understand the functionality of the World Wide Web and it's importance in our lives today.
In order to do this, one of the best ways of learning, is to,

"... get messy, take chances and make mistakes." (Miss Frizzel - The Magic SchoolBus)

Good day;

As you may recall, on the introductory page, we talked quite extensively about how you will be choosing a level of criteria to challenge for this project. This webpage contains all of that criteria. Some of it is very specific and some of it is left open to you.

REMEMBER - no matter which level you choose, your success depends upon your willingness to make the effort.

Okay, here we go.

Criteria for each level is as follows:

Wizard - A mark of 80 - 100 will be assigned if all criteria is met
Technology:
The Wizard level would be a good level for those individuals who have done a lot of HTML coding (perhaps even on your own time), have a really good understanding of how it works, and are interested in pushing themselves to add a lot of high end multimedia (sound, video, Realaudio, VR, etc.) in order to make the site as interactive as possible. Your site must include:

-a minimum of 7 web pages, one per Social Studies question, a bibliography and glossary page
-all pages must be linked together and all must link back to the first or homepage
-a unifying theme is present and employed throughout the 7 pages relating to the imagery and perspective presented in the site (same background image or color, same attention to details, same location of 'back' links, same font and/or font colors are used throughout, etc.)
-all new terminology or in need of defining works are linked directly to the glossary page (from within the paragraph where they are presented)
-at least 8 links to related websites presently posted on the Web are included
-more than 4 related pictures per webpage are used to support the discussion on that page
-effective and appropriate use of colors (both background and text)
-headings, proper and appropriate size of text, style (bold, italic, etc.)
-4 examples of related video or sound clips (used within your 7 pages in appropriate locations)
-2 examples of VR (virtual reality) clips related to Brazil (and used within your 7 pages in appropriate locations)
-1 example of multimedia created by yourself - this could be an audio recording, a Quicktime movie that you created (hint - Kid Pix), a Quicktime video that you recorded with your Camcorder, digitized and added to your site, an animated .gif that you created to send a message to your readers, etc.
-1 other element of advanced Web programming is included - Java applets, a feedback form, mailto URL, frames, etc.

Social Studies:
The website clearly demonstrates extensive information about the physical features, culture and history of how human settlement has altered the physical environment of Brazil. The website presents a perceptive understanding and perspective about the issue. Thoughtful consideration has been given to alternative viewpoints on the issue and conclusions drawn are clearly supported by the background information and history about Brazil.

Master - A mark of 65 - 80 will be assigned if all criteria is met
Technology:

"A Bedebede, that's all folks!" (P.Pig)

A due date will be set jointly as we create a plan of action to make you successful.

You will need to complete 2 or 3 KWL+ assignments with me as you go through this process, and you will start the whole thing by taking a short Internet quiz, watching a video on Web search skills, and signing a contract indicating which level of success you will be striving for.

REMEMBER - this is an individual project- that doesn't mean you have to do it all alone. Collaboration is a great way to receive feedback, bounce ideas off others, and get some help when you get stuck along the way.
